Every click improves the future

Inspiring Sustainability is one of four strategic priorities for iMasons. One way to inspire is amplifying good work. In 2019, iMasons launched the Sustainability Champion Award to recognize individuals who deliver meaningful and sustained results in the digital infrastructure industry.

The first awardee was Joe Kava, VP of Data Centers for Google, for their leadership in driving 3,500 MW of renewable energy. In 2020, iMasons has taken on the bold task to develop a common, industrywide sustainability strategy framework, including a shared vision for the future: Every Click Improves the Future.

Joe Kava
Vice President, Global Data Centers, Google

Joe Kava is a Founding Member and an Advisory Board member of iMasons. Joe is the Vice President of Global Data Centers for Google and leads the teams responsible for site selection, power purchasing, research, engineering, construction management, critical facility operations, hardware operations, environmental health and safety, sustainability, and physical security for Google’s global fleet of data centers.

Christian Belady
General Manager, Datacenter Advanced Development, Microsoft

Christian Belady is a founding member of the iMasons Advisory Council. For nearly a decade Christian was responsible for Microsoft’s global datacenter expansion, however he now leads the Datacenter Advanced Development(DAD) team for Microsoft with a focus on technologies that can change the game in the industry. He has received many industry awards for innovation and metrics but is best known for being the father of PUE.

Jim Smith
Managing Director, Hyperscale Equinix

Jim Smith is a founding member of iMasons Advisory Council. As the Managing Director of Hyperscale at Equinix, Jim is responsible for all aspects of the Hyperscale business at Equinix. Previously, Jim served in various leadership roles at Digital Realty including CTO with responsibilities spanning the Portfolio Operations Group, which includes global property operations, technical operations, customer service, security and data center services functions.

Peter Gross
Board Member, Virtual Power Systems

Peter Gross is a founding member of iMasons Advisory Council. He is the cofounder and the former CEO and CTO of EYP Mission Critical Facilities. He was also a Vice-President at Hewlett Packard and Bloom Energy. He is presently a board member of several technology companies, and a consultant, advisor and investor.

Tom Furlong
Vice President of Infrastructure, Facebook

Tom Furlong is a founding member of iMasons Advisory Council. As the Vice President of Infrastructure Data Centers at Facebook, Tom is responsible for the creation and execution of the strategy to source and operate mission critical assets, which support the company’s computing and networking infrastructure.
