Powering Next-Generation Fiber Networks During The AI Revolution

Building the future of digital infrastructure in India with intelligent, scalable, and ultra-fast connectivity

For years, fiber infrastructure has been a silent but reliable connectivity backbone, quietly powering the telecom ecosystem of the world. As the gold standard for physical connectivity, it has been particularly critical in the last mile, where it forms the underlying fabric that links cellular towers to base stations through extensive optical fiber networks.

Historically, these networks have largely been deployed by telcos and service providers to serve mobility and consumer broadband use cases where maximum geographic reach was prioritized over high-capacity performance needs (especially with respect to India’s vast subscriber base of 1.2 billion end users). Fiber networks were largely seen as passive infrastructure layers – essential assets built to meet growing consumer demand, but not designed for the scale, redundancy or latency sensitivity for emerging technologies. They fundamentally lacked the strategic foresight needed for today’s hyperscale environments.

However, with the surge in data-intensive applications, that paradigm is rapidly shifting; fiber is no longer limited to carrying just consumer and enterprise traffic. This shift marks a clear inflection point—from fiber as a mere “backbone” to a strategic asset in its own right—as we move beyond simple mobility into the era of data center interconnectivity and an accelerating digital economy.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Ankit Goel, a first-generation entrepreneur, is the visionary behind Space World Group (SWG) and its efforts to transform network connectivity for millions. Under his leadership, SWG has grown into a diversified enterprise with ventures across digital infrastructure (Constl), optical fiber (RANext), chemical production (Rymbal), and metal fabrication (Space Telelink Limited).

In 2023, Ankit founded Constl with a bold mission to be India’s go-to digital infrastructure provider. In just two years, Constl has connected 100+ data centers across India, deploying a 225K+ FPKM of high-capacity, scalable fiber infrastructure to power leading hyperscalers, telcos, ISPs, and OTT/CDNs.
