The Future Begins Before Tomorrow - Every generation inherits infrastructure it did not build. We drive across bridges whose engineers we never… Can we build fast enough? For most of the past decade, our industry asked itself one question above all others: Can we build fast enough? This year, I have become convinced that was the wrong question, or at least no longer the one that matters most.
The 2026 Infrastructure Masons State of the Digital Infrastructure Industry explains why. Global capacity has reached 373GW—nearly double what we reported a year ago and more than triple what the inaugural report documented in 2024. Seventy-one of those gigawatts are already carrying digital workloads. Another 22 are under construction. And 280 more sit in the development pipeline, representing trillions in committed capital and a projected tenfold increase over the coming decade—including somewhere between three and seven trillion US dollars by 2030. These numbers are not forecasts on a slide. They are purchase orders, signed leases, and turned soil. Put simply, we will build more digital infrastructure in the next three years than we did in the previous 30.
