A Royal Spectacle: Montblanc’s Star Legacy Suspended Exo Tourbillon Château de Versailles

Montblanc transforms a moment of century grandeur into one of its most opulent haute horlogerie creations to date. Limited to just eight pieces, the Star Legacy Suspended Exo Tourbillon Château de Versailles pays tribute to France’s most legendary masquerade: the Yew Tree Ball of 1745—when Louis XV, disguised as sculpted topiary, slipped through the Hall of Mirrors to pursue the future Madame de Pompadour.

The base of the dial is crafted from white gold and coated in black enamel overlaid with gold paillons evoking the flicker of candlelight. Arched colonnades are recreated using French Sarrancolin marble and Cacholong stone. The parquet floor of hand-inlaid oak forms the base of the ballroom, while chandeliers and masked figures laser-etched into sapphire above add ghostly depth.

At 12 o’clock, a Baroque-inspired time display in champlevé enamel is crowned by a laser-sculpted golden Apollo head—a miniature tribute to the Sun King’s palace iconography. Below, Montblanc’s patented one-minute Suspended Exo Tourbillon Calibre MB M16.68 reveals its elevated balance wheel beating proudly above the cage for technical efficiency and visual theatre.

Presented in a musical automaton box, this masterpiece is as much château as it is chronometer.
