As part of our ongoing partnership with NVTC, InterGlobix Magazine is proud to be the media partner of the NVTC Data Center & Cloud Community meeting on the topic of: “How The Government is Migrating to Data Centers & the Cloud” to be held on June 9, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon ET.
The U.S. Federal Government is on a journey to optimize its IT systems by leveraging commercial data centers and public cloud services. According to the most recent Data Center Optimization Report by the U.S. Government Accountability Office published in March 2021, federal agencies reported operating 5,916 data centers, down over 50% from the 12,062 reported in 2017. These agencies expect to close an additional 230 data centers and save $1.1 billion by 2023.
When these data centers close, where do the applications and data go? To commercial data centers and public clouds.
Thomas Santucci leads the project management office (PMO) for the Data Center Optimization Initiative (DCOI) which is at the forefront of implementing the federal Cloud Smart strategy, and serves as Co-Chair of the Federal CIO Cloud and Infrastructure Community of Practice, which has over 1,600 members from across the federal IT workforce.
