Co-founder & Chief Technology Officer, CoreWeave

As a specialized GPU-focused cloud provider built for high-performance intensive workloads like AI and ML, CoreWeave offers immediate access to the latest NVIDIA hardware at lower costs, with a Kubernetes-native platform optimized for massive-scale compute.

Originally founded as Atlantic Crypto for cryptocurrency mining, the company pivoted in 2019 to rebrand as CoreWeave, a multibillion-dollar GPU-based cloud provider. How did this transition from crypto mining to artificial intelligence (AI) unfold, and what has this journey to being the largest provider of specialized GPU and cloud services for AI been like?

From the beginning, CoreWeave was built around a broad vision of operating large-scale, GPU-based compute for demanding workloads. Cryptocurrency mining was the first application because it provided a practical way to bootstrap the business, scale a GPU fleet efficiently, and build deep operational expertise. Early on, we designed infrastructure to support more than mining, including visual effects, rendering, and machine learning workloads. Operating always-on, high-density environments required expertise in hardware optimization, power efficiency, networking, distributed systems, and reliability at scale, all of which translated directly as AI workloads accelerated.

As AI demand became clearer and more durable, the business evolved. In 2019, we became CoreWeave to reflect what we had built: a platform focused on specialized compute, with AI emerging as the dominant use case. That evolution was driven by continued investment in software orchestration, storage, networking, and operational maturity to support production workloads.
