Informal Interactions with Dan Caruso

Can you share a bit about your work-life balance? What sort of things do you like to do when you’re not working?

Frankly, my life used to revolve around being a CEO in the telecom bandwidth industry, and as I let that go in 2020, I really had to redefine who I was and what my life was going to be about. I didn’t want to go into a private equity firm or be a CEO of another company or join endless boards. So, I had to find a work-life combination that would keep me interested and engaged for years to come. I think I’m doing a pretty good job of that.

Outside of my foundation activities, my private investments in the Colorado tech community, my book publication, and my podcast (The Bear Roars, which features people and stories from within the bandwidth industry), I’m much more active with my family and friends than my former life allowed me to be. I love being able to do more with them and spend more quality time together. Colorado is great for outdoors and fitness, so I do some yoga, golf, cycling, and gardening as well. I especially love cooking pizza in my pizza oven and building up my personal wine cellar and cocktail bar. All in all, I feel like I have a more complete life.
