Steve Smith leads Digital Realty’s team in driving growth and value for the company via PlatformDIGITAL® in the Americas region. With proven go-to-market leadership experience within the IT cloud, software, hardware, infrastructure, and services arena, he is skilled at fostering and operating a results-oriented organization and culture and moving from developing strategy to driving execution.

Smith joined Digital Realty following eight years at CoreSite, where he served in the role of Chief Revenue Officer and was responsible for the customer lifecycle, including sales and sales engineering, marketing, and new product innovation. Including previous roles at SAP Enterprise Sales as Regional Vice President and Avaya as General Manager and Vice President of US Channel Sales, he brings more than 25 years of management experience across enterprise software, network, managed services, and data center infrastructure.

Smith holds a BA in Business Administration from the University of New Mexico.

In April 2023, you joined Digital Realty to lead the company’s activities in the Americas. Can you share with us what drew you to this opportunity and how your experience in the consumer lifecycle, enterprise software landscape, and data center infrastructure prepared you for it?

The draw to join Digital Realty was multifaceted, but also very clear. First there is the fundamental massive growth opportunity in the data center industry, which continues to this day. The second was Digital Realty’s global footprint and history in serving networks, enterprises, and hyperscalers, which fundamentally sets them apart from other platforms.

The tipping point was the vision, commitment, and investment in fully integrating the business that Digital Realty’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Andy Power, brings to the table. He approaches this process not only in terms of growth but also in ensuring that our systems, processes, and products—resultant from various acquisitions—are aligned in a coordinated structure in order to deliver differentiated value for our customers.
