The Golden Age Of Ferrari

How the 12Cilindri Spider is combining midcentury glamor with modern ingenuity

In 1947, Ferrari debuted its first V-12 engine in the form of the 125 Spyder Corsa. Nearly 80 years later, this newest model in Ferrari’s V-12 repertoire pays tribute to its grand-touring roots of the ’50s and ’60s, while celebrating the best of modern engineering.

Only one of two cars to win the prestigious Gold Awards at the 2025 iF Design Awards (the other being the 12Cilindri Coupe, another version of the same model), the Spider is everything you want from a Ferrari. With a setback cabin and a long, clamshell-shaped hood, its look references the famed 1969 Daytona Spider with the addition of a brand new chassis, carefully contoured shaping, and dramatic fading buttresses from the headrests to the rear deck. Built for both power and finesse, its front-mounted 6.5-liter V-12 engine purrs with 830 hp, revs up to 9,500 rpm, and propels the car from 0 to 62 mph in 2.9 seconds. With or without the roof—which can be opened in 14 seconds at speeds of up to 28 mph—it can reach 211 mph without compromising its spun-silk agility or razor-sharp turning abilities.

What really sets the car apart, though, is that every feature inside and out is curated by a team of engineers, designers, and test drivers who worked together to weave a web of multi-sensory magic. Components derived from and honed by Ferrari’s experience in Formula 1 blends seamlessly with everyday functional demands and driving comforts, like haptic touch buttons and a multi-setting audio system that balances how sound is distributed through the speakers to balance internal and engine audio dynamics. Likewise, for the first time ever on a Ferrari road car, a secondary alloy gleaned from recycled materials helps reduce carbon emissions by 146 kg for every car produced.

For a daily use car, the 12Cilindri Spider certainly doesn’t come cheap—the base price without any added features or personalizations is 510,000 USD—but if you’re looking for grand-touring grandeur mixed with road-ready approachability, this model offers a lot of bang for your buck.
