For the last eighteen months, the AI infrastructure narrative has been dominated by megacampus headlines, hyperscale power races, and record-setting GPU procurement cycles. The story has been told as if the future of AI belongs exclusively to the largest facilities, the biggest substations, and the densest racks the industry has ever attempted to cool. Power, land, and scale have dominated the spotlight.

But beneath that headline narrative, a consequential shift is playing out across the digital infrastructure ecosystem. AI is no longer just about where the GPUs live. It is now equally about where AI connects—to clouds, to data, to networks, to partners, and increasingly to enterprises deploying real-time applications. That shift is pulling attention back toward a critical layer of the infrastructure stack: carrier hotels, the connectivity-rich facilities that sit at the convergence of network density, enterprise ecosystems, and cloud adjacency. These metro interconnection hubs facilitate the lowest possible latency for applications such as cloud services, virtual reality, autonomous vehicles, and AI inference compute.
