Chris Malone

Chris Malone is a leading figure in data centers and AI infrastructure. Currently Head of Data Centers at OpenAI, he leads the design, construction, and operation of the world’s most advanced AI compute infrastructure supporting next-generation models and research at unprecedented scale. Before OpenAI, Malone held senior engineering roles at Meta, Google, and Hewlett-Packard, where he led innovations in data center infrastructure and IT hardware. At Meta, he led the company’s shift to an AI-first data center architecture and enabled large-scale training and inference systems. At Google, he oversaw innovations in data center power and cooling and led the development of multiple generations of data center designs. At HP, he addressed thermal challenges at the chip, system, and data center levels.

Malone’s career is marked by significant contributions to scalable, energy-efficient data center solutions, and he is recognized for expertise in integrating hardware and software to achieve optimal performance. He has been granted over 200 patents, and his work has influenced the evolution of hyperscale infrastructure across multiple tech giants.
